Monsteen - Participatory Theatre Work - In Development
Monsteen is a 6 hour participatory theatre work for teenagers, where young people develop their own monstrous teenaged character and attend a fictional supernatural High School.
Monsteen takes place amidst an unprecedented heatwave where players find themselves as central protagonists making friends and enemies, attending classes, social events and secret hangouts, having dinner with parents and choosing sides in ugly friendship battles. As the game progresses players are asked to come to terms with their monstrous side. What do they see in the mirror and can they embrace it? The power is in their hands to help shape the supernatural world in which Monsteen takes place.
Made in response to emerging youth culture and artforms such as cosplay and gaming Monsteen runs in contrast to the risk averse culture of real world schooling, indoor lifestyles and helicopter parenting. Monsteen is an opportunity to take social risks amongst peers in a playful, fun and dynamic environment.
